In this 3-hour workshop, we’ll dive into the world of beef. Using simple kitchen utensils, we’ll learn how to prepare a beef tartare, as well as master cutting techniques and pan-frying like a chef!

We’ll see how to recognize the different parts and pieces of this meat, the secret of the Maillard reaction and the internal cooking temperatures to obtain perfectly cooked pieces every time. We’ll arm ourselves with sharp knives and explore the different techniques for preparing and cooking beef like a pro.

In this 3.5-hour workshop, basketmaker Fabienne Clément will help you create an elegant and durable Adirondack-style mini backpack basket for kids!

We’ll learn the technique of continuous braiding with an tight braided base. We’ll see how to insert colorful rattan strands and finish the basket with a border.

This lightweight, sturdy and stylish basket is perfect for picking, markets and hiking! Everyone will be able to choose from a variety of braid colors.

Would you like to learn embroidery, the ancient art of fabric decoration, while adopting sustainable practices? Would you like to discover a decorative embroidery technique that can be used to patch garments?

During this 3-hour workshop, you’ll discover techniques inspired by Sashiko (meaning “little stitches”), a traditional Japanese form of embroidery. Initially designed to reinforce work clothes, this hand-embroidery technique is now mainly used for aesthetic purposes.

By practicing on a cotton fabric, we’ll cover the basic principles of this age-old technique; the use of the front stitch with a needle and sashiko thimble; and methods for creating regular lines and beautiful geometric patterns.

Skills required: none, apart from a little meticulousness and patience.

Are you fascinated by leather work, and you would like to know the techniques? Do you like to look great with a nice, practical bag on your back to carry your everyday belongings?

In this 2 x 6h intensive course, you’ll learn in depth how to work with leather to create a strong, elegant backpack.

Diana, our professional leather worker, will guide you through the various techniques and tricks of the trade, as you’ll learn:

  • – Leather working tools
  • – Cutting leather according to a pattern
  • – Dyeing bandoliers and straps
  • – All preparation work, including opening holes, marking seam lines and marking and perforating stitches
  • – 2-needle sewing (1. Saddle stitch; 2. Parallel stitch)
  • – Assembly of sewing and gluing parts
  • – Install hardware

At the end of the course, you’ll go home with your backpack measuring 36cm (H) x 35.5cm (W) x 7cm (D).

Would you like to discover the creative world of resin? Would you like to learn how to work with epoxy to create decorative, practical and personalized objects?

In this 3-hour workshop, Ricardo will take us through all the steps involved in manipulating epoxy resin to make a set of 3 matching or mismatched trinket dishes! After an introduction to this decorative art, we’ll learn about the different types of resin, molds and pigments, and their uses.

We’ll start with techniques for manipulating and coloring resin to create objects in silicone molds. Then it’s time to get creative and create unique decorations! Everyone can choose their own color scheme and effects, and add glitter, dried flowers, small rocks, etc. Once the decorations have been chosen, the resin will be mixed, poured into the molds and finished.

Feel free to bring your own decorative elements (tree leaves, dried flowers, rocks, beads, pieces of wood, glass, ceramics, jewelry…) to personalize your projects!

Each person will create a set of 3 trinket dishes, in a variety of shapes and sizes, and in the colors of their choice!

Note: a drying period is required after the workshop. Your projects will be dropped off at Affûtés Village a few days later.

The workshop will be held at the Montréal Tile Lab studio, on Promenade Masson. We’ll let you know the exact address once you’ve registered. 

You have already tried your hand at stained glass and you have been dreaming of creating a lampshade since the dawn of time? Or you’d simply like to go one step further and take on a technical challenge that will enable you to light up your own home?

In this course of 6 x 3h sessions, you’ll use all the notions learned in your previous introductory workshops to create this pendant lampshade, as well as exploring new aspects of the art.

  • – Day 1: Glass selection, cutting and grinding of 18 pieces
  • – Day 2: Cleaning of pieces and wrapping with copper tape
  • – Day 3: Flat soldering of lampshade panels and cleaning of flux
  • – Day 4: 3D assembly, addition of reinforcements and cleaning, application of patina, rinsing, drying and application of polish.

At the end of the course, you’ll leave with your own creation!

Skills required: You must have already taken at least one beginner’s course in stained glass (here), as we don’t cover the basics due to lack of time. However, it’s highly recommended that you’ve taken part in several stained glass workshops, not just the initiation, especially if you’ve only taken part in one of the 4-hour beginner workshops (Christmas balls or geometric heart) held in autumn 2022.

In order to ensure the quality of the final result and the feasibility of the workshop within the time and price constraints, no shape variants are available, and you will not be allowed to design your own pattern. Glass of different colors, opacities and textures will be made available to you.

Using a food processor, we’ll learn macaronage techniques and how to use a pastry bag. We’ll discover two ganache recipes in a variety of flavors: Chocolate; and caramel. We’ll also take a look at the different stages involved in making a successful macaron shell.

Using a whisk and a maryse, we’ll mix, dress and discover the subtleties and stages of baking. We’ll discover all the tricks of the trade for creamy ganaches and smooth, even macaron shells! Each participant will leave with 10 macarons.

After reviewing the necessary ingredients, we’ll learn how to knead and roll out the dough, cut the tagliatelle, shape the gnocchi and stuff the ravioli. Then we’ll go into the secrets of perfect “al dente” cooking!

Would you like to learn how to work with leather and create a useful, timeless object? Would you like to wear a unique, handcrafted watch on your wrist?

In this 3-hour workshop, we’ll make a beautiful watch with a leather strap! For this occasion, we’re pleased to collaborate with Montreal-based Chikiboom, a company that shares our values of enlightened consumption, local purchasing and ecology! The watch dials and buckles on offer come from this beautiful project.

First, we’ll cover the various tools and techniques of basic leatherworking, making the leather watchband: choice of leather and design; cutting patterns; perforating holes; beveling edges; stitching… Then we’ll move on to finishing and assembling the strap to the dial.

Everyone will have the opportunity to personalize their project according to their style and desires, thanks to several choices of leather colors, dials, buckles and bracelet designs!
