Fabienne Clément, basketry craftswoman, will accompany us in the making of a pretty pouch, with a cotton strap, ideal for picking herbs, small fruits, mushrooms, or as an interior decoration depending on the season!

Perfect as an introduction to basketry, this 3.5-hour workshop will be an opportunity to discover the different techniques of weaving and tightening rattan. You will learn how to finger weave, continuously, from a closed braided base and insert a cotton braid in your choice of color.

During this 4-hour workshop, Fabienne Clément, basketry craftswoman, will guide you in the making of a beautiful and practical laundry basket. Starting with a wooden base, you will learn to weave one row at a time and insert two handles on the sides for easy movement. You will also have the opportunity to add color to the weaving and choose between woven or wooden handles! You’ll then learn how to finish your basket with a border.

Are you a water sports enthusiast who would like to make your own wooden paddle? Do you want to discover wood carving and create a useful and personalized object?

This training course in two 3-hour sessions, led by Laurence, workshop leader and big fan of canoeing, is made for you! Starting with a solid wood board and using hand tools, you will begin making a personalized paddle.

The first session will allow you to learn about the different types of wood, as well as create the template of your own paddle with machines such as the band saw, the router and the sandblaster. The second session will be the time to bring your paddle to life by discovering various wood carving techniques! We will use hand tools such as the rasp, to quickly remove material; the plane, to smooth out surfaces and make a nice pile of wood shavings; then the vastringue and the sandblaster to carve the curved parts and add the finishing touches.

Everyone will have the choice between two types of wood, cherry or pine, depending on the desired use and result.

Skills required: previous woodworking experience and willingness to make a physical effort!

The price includes all the necessary material, precious advice (in sculpture, not in navigation) and 4 hours of autonomy to come and work on the project outside the scheduled sessions.

The Collectif Bienvenue is an organization whose main mission is to mobilize the local Montreal community to bring immediate help to the city’s most at-risk asylum seekers.

On Friday, October 22nd, we are organizing a one-day charity marathon at Les Affûtés to make wooden kitchen utensils that will be donated to new refugee families in Montreal!

How does it work?

Sessions of 1h30 will be scheduled throughout the day, in the form of a relay, to participate in the making of cutting boards, spatulas, salt and pepper shakers, and trivets.

Les Affûtés will offer everything: the accompaniment of our workshop leaders, the materials, the time and use of the machines. All you have to do is come with your energy, closed shoes, and your best smile under your mask!

A chair is not a simple object, it is a design, but also ergonomics. By completing this course, you will have a good foundation to make all the chairs you need at home.

This 6 session course, led by Guillaume, our workshop leader, will allow you to make your first solid wood chair from raw boards.

We will cover different techniques such as: reading and understanding plans, planning the manufacturing process, preparing machining lines, using project specific templates, complex gluing.

Type of wood used: various woods depending on what you find in our cuttings (walnut, chain, pine, cherry, ash, cherry).
Skills required: it is necessary to have participated in a wood induction workshop or a wood course with us and to know how to use the following tools: jointer, planer, saw bench.

In addition to the 6 sessions, this course gives you free access to 12 hours of independent workshops to advance your project between sessions.

Have you already made cold process soap but you don’t dare to stray from your recipe? Would you like to take your soap-making skills to the next level by using more complex ingredients that bring more virtues?

During this 3-hour workshop, you will learn different techniques to add ingredients that are rich in properties but also delicate on the skin, such as beer, goat’s milk, honey, or pine tar. You will also learn about the benefits of different oils in oiling, depending on the type of skin.

Each participant will leave with 500g of the soap of her/his choice (among 4 recipes),  with a recipe that has been adapted to your skin and scented according to your preferences.

Skill required: having already followed a soap-making workshop or having already made cold process soap.

This 4 to 5-hour class will allow you to discover the secrets of rattan tightening. You will learn the technique of continuous weaving with an airy woven base.
You will learn how to finish the basket with a border and insert straps to transform the basket into a backpack.

This basket is also perfect for the market, flower picking, and hiking.

Young or old, everyone wears socks! Want to master the art of knitting these useful garments to keep your feet warm?

This is the perfect knitting project to take to the next level: small and practical, you can take it anywhere. The best part? You only need one skein to knit a pair. So get your needles! During this course, you’ll learn how to knit with double-pointed needles and do all the calculations necessary to get the right size socks.

Skills required: know how to cast on and knit the stitches right side up and wrong side down. Previous experience in knitting in the round is preferred.

This course is divided into 4 sessions of 2 hours, which will take place on the same day, over 4 consecutive weeks, every fridays november 18, november 25, december 2 and december 9 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

In this workshop, reserved for knitters who have mastered the knitting of right side and wrong side stitches, you will learn how to knit in the round with double point and circular needles, how to make a sample, how to manage reductions, how to coordinate colors and how to think and adapt your pattern to achieve a perfect result.

This course is divided into 3 sessions of 2 hours, which will take place on Fridays February 03, 10 and 17 2023 – from 6pm to 8pm.
