Do you sometimes feel lost when faced with a machine that makes a strange noise, a plant that turns yellow or a button that pops off? Do you sometimes feel lost when faced with a machine that makes a strange noise, a plant that turns yellow or a button that pops off? This course is for you… or for your teenager who’s growing up too fast (ideal for 16-25 year olds).
In this complete course of 6 3-hour sessions, you’ll learn the essential basics to become more independent in your everyday life. Whether you’re starting from scratch or you’ve already got your hands dirty, we’ll guide you step by step, without judgment and in a friendly atmosphere.
Each session focuses on a key aspect of independent living:
– Bike repair: learn how to maintain your chain, fix a puncture or adjust your brakes, so you can ride safely all over Montreal (no more Bixi terminals with no bike available!). Friday, July 4 in the Village from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
– Horticulture – stop your plants dying: understand their needs, choose the right varieties and create a green corner that lasts. Friday, July 4 in the Village from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
– Basic renovation: learn how to fix a shelf, drill properly and anchor solidly in a wall, without tearing it down. Friday, July 11 in the Village from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
– Clothes repair: sew on a button, mend a hole or adjust a hem to give your wardrobe a new lease on life (no more jeans with holes!). Friday, July 11 in the Village from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
– Cooking basics: learn how to eat well and cook simple, nutritious and tasty meals, without spending hours on it. (No more instant noodles!) Friday, July 18 in the Mile Ex from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
– Appliance repair: understand, diagnose and carry out small repairs without panicking or throwing everything away. Even your toaster will thank you. Friday, July 18 in the Mile Ex from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
You’ll leave with concrete tools, mastered techniques and, above all, the satisfaction of being able to do things yourself. A real mental and practical toolbox to help you face life with more confidence… and a little less panicked calls to your mother or your handyman friend.
Skills required: none, except perhaps the desire to stop saying “I don’t know how”!
The price includes all tools, materials used in the workshop, and a good dose of tips and good humor to help you get on with it at home.
