Imagine pulling a still-warm sourdough loaf out of the oven, with a beautifully golden crust and a generous crumb. Are you curious about mastering the fermentation process and creating your own sourdough starter?
During this one-day workshop, guided by a master baker, you’ll discover the fascinating world of living organisms through sourdough. You’ll learn everything there is to know about this natural ecosystem of microorganisms that allows bread to rise naturally, without using commercial yeast.
During this one-day workshop, you’ll discover the essential techniques of sourdough baking, from maintaining your starter to baking the bread. You’ll understand the role of different flours and how to use them depending on the desired result.
You’ll also explore different ways to top bread by incorporating seeds, nuts, or grains to create a variety of flavors and textures.
Throughout the day, you’ll alternate between the different stages of the baking process to monitor the progress of several doughs simultaneously. This will be an opportunity to knead by hand and with a stand mixer, perform folding techniques, and shape various types of bread. Once you’ve mastered the sourdough starter, we’ll take the time to explore different bread-decorating techniques, such as scoring and stenciling, to create unique patterns. It’s a wonderful way to add a personal touch to your creations and transform each loaf into a true work of art.
At the end of the class, everyone will leave with a round loaf, a loaf baked in a pan, a crown-shaped loaf, and some rolls—and, most importantly, with all the basics you need to care for your sourdough starter and continue making delicious homemade bread. It’s sure to turn every batch into a moment of pride… and fill your kitchen with the irresistible aroma of bread fresh from the oven.
