Has knitting always intrigued you? Do you dream of combining colors and patterns to add some fun to your scarves, hats, and other knitting projects?
In this three-session course, we will discover three types of techniques and varying levels of difficulty through the creation of a sample book: mosaic knitting, jacquard, and three-dimensional knitting.
Our experienced and challenge-seeking instructor will be there to help you unravel the mysteries! In a relaxed setting that encourages learning through experimentation, you’ll learn how to adapt your projects to your personal taste and style.
The course is divided into three sessions:
Session 1:
● Review of knitting basics: types of needles, stitches, cast-ons, and
flat versus circular knitting.
● Introduction to charted and written patterns.
● Flat or circular knitting depending on the project: how to choose and adapt your
gauge.
● Choice of slip stitch techniques.
● Mosaic knitting techniques of your choice
Session 2:
● Review of the first section
● Steam blocking of samples made in the last class
● Color wheel: contrasting, tonal, or complementary combinations
● Jacquard with pulled threads: fair isle, peerie patterns, and geometric patterns
● How to hold your threads and maintain even tension
● Choosing colors and ensuring sufficient contrast
Session 3:
● How to adapt a chosen pattern to a motif selected from our samples
● Using a “recipe” type pattern to make a hat, mittens, or booties.
● Three-dimensional knitting: bobbles, pleats, and i-cord
● Finishing techniques
