You love your kitchen chairs, but that ‘80s pattern hasn’t come back in style yet? Has the vinyl on the seats lost its shine, and you’d love to reupholster them with beautiful fabric to impress your next guests?
During this 2-session (2 x 3 hours) workshop, you’ll learn the basics of upholstery while doing something practical and rewarding. Guided by an experienced upholsterer, you’ll first learn how to properly strip down an old, worn-out cover and assess whether the foam in your chairs is still good for years to come. Then, you’ll dive into professional techniques to replace the fabric like a pro.
You’re welcome to bring up to 4 chair parts (seats and/or backs).
A few tips to know if your chair is suitable for this technique:
-
You can unscrew the seat or back from the chair’s frame yourself.
-
When you tap underneath the seat or back, the base should feel rigid — made of wood or plastic. If it’s metal, unfortunately, it won’t be possible to reupholster it in this workshop.
-
There are no seams or stitching on the seat or back.
-
The padded base is not embedded into the chair’s structure (refer to the example photo).
-
It will be helpful to remove the seat and back from the frame before coming to the workshop!
Please note: Fabric and foam are not included in the workshop. No worries — the first session will be dedicated to guiding you through material selection and quantities. You’ll then have two weeks to gather what you need with help from your instructor. It’s possible you won’t finish all four chair parts during the workshop, but you’ll leave with all the skills needed to complete them at home or independently at Les Affûtés.
Skill level required: None. This workshop is beginner-friendly.
The workshop includes tools, pro tips, and a comfy place to sit!
