Do you have a pattern in mind that you’d love to recreate over and over again? Are you intrigued by screen printing and eager to learn how to master it?
In this 3.5-hour workshop, guided by a professional in the art, you’ll discover how to create your own screen printing tool using a wooden frame and silk fabric. We’ll go through how to use it and practice printing the pattern or composition of your choice using the appropriate steps, which include:
-
Stretching the silk onto the wooden frame
-
Coating the frame
-
Preparing your designs on acetate
-
Exposing the frame to light
-
Washing out the design with a water jet
-
Drying the frame and setting up your printing station
-
Choosing your ink color and printing on paper or fabric
You’ll leave with your design transferred onto silk, set in a 10″ x 10″ frame, ready to reuse at home.
Please note : You can think in advance about the designs you’d like to create during the workshop — we’ll be using Sharpies on acetate. If you’d rather not create your own, you’ll also have access to a selection of ready-made designs. Keep in mind that the silk we use doesn’t handle very fine details well, so it’s best to stick with bolder patterns for optimal results.
Skill level required: None. This workshop is open to everyone.
The workshop includes all materials, expert guidance, and a good dose of creativity!
