Would you like to develop your versatility in sewing? Do you have plenty of projects in mind and want to stop fearing stretchy fabrics that move, slip, or curl up under your machine needle?
In this 3-hour class, through hands-on practice with various samples, we’ll learn how to tame stretch fabrics and elastics from every angle. There will be no more secrets, so you can confidently make T-shirts, leggings, underwear, and swimsuits at home with a regular sewing machine—no serger required.
Several specialty stitches will be covered, such as the three-step zigzag and the triple straight stitch.
We’ll also look at how to:
- – Thread your machine and run tests on fabric samples
- – Change your needle
- – Choose the right elastic for the job
- – Sew elastic flatlock-style seams for clean, sturdy finishes
- – Sew elastic onto an opening (underwear finishing)
- – Apply fold-over elastic
- – Attach a T-shirt neckline
You’ll go home with your samples as a handy reference for the techniques learned.
Required skills: none. This workshop is suitable both for beginners discovering sewing and for more experienced sewists looking to expand their knowledge.
The workshop includes all materials, the sewing machine, fabrics and notions, and a wealth of valuable, topic-specific advice.
