Do you want to finally understand what’s inside a bag of cement and learn how to use it? This workshop offers a hands-on exploration of the world of concrete, from mixing to pouring, including molds and formwork.
We’ll start by demystifying the differences between cement, concrete, and mortar, their uses, and the key principles you need to know to avoid common mistakes. In particular, you’ll learn about hydration-based curing, when to use concrete with or without aggregates, and what options are available to you depending on the project.
Then it’s time for hands-on practice: preparing the mix, choosing tools and mixing methods, and techniques for pouring, compacting, and finishing. Special attention will be given to molds and formwork, which are essential for achieving a smooth surface and removing the piece from the mold without any mishaps. You’ll learn how to use an existing mold, as well as how to design custom formwork that’s watertight and easy to unmold.
Finally, the workshop becomes a true playground. A variety of molds, textures, and decorative elements will allow you to experiment with the material to create a few small concrete pieces. Decorative slabs with embedded glass, doorstops, candle holders, flower pots… Your creation will take shape as you experiment, giving free rein to your creativity.
No experience required: the main goal is to leave with a better understanding of concrete.
