Are you the kind of person who wonders how small appliances work so you can fix them ? Would you like to bring back to life the beautiful blender your grandmother gave you?
This course combines our two Repairing Small Appliances workshops (Level 1 and Level 2) condensed into a single day.
The first part of the course covers :
- – The function of the main electrical and mechanical components of small electrical appliances, how to check them and analyze typical electrical diagrams.
- – The multimeter: understanding how it works to check the various electrical components.
- – Troubleshooting, repair techniques and their application to various household appliances.
- – Tools needed for repairs, how to use them and build your own toolbox.
- – The various parts and materials needed for repairs: switches, fuses, plugs, connectors, cleaners, bulbs, heating elements, tin, heat-shrink tubing, connection caps, etc.
- – Resources for obtaining reference information and purchasing parts and tools.
In the second part of the course, we’ll look at :
- – Introduction to soldering. You’ll learn about safety, then assemble a small electronic circuit using a soldering iron. You’ll also learn how to desolder.
- – Repairing an electrical device. After experimenting with working on an electronic circuit board, you’ll dismantle a faulty small household appliance and, using a multimeter and the techniques learned in the Level 1 workshop, identify the cause(s) of the problem. You can then propose a solution to repair the appliance.
To make sure we have time to cover all the material, if you bring an electro from home, a diagnosis of the problem can be made, time permitting.
Skills required: None, just curious about how our equipment works!
The cost of the training includes all the equipment and, most likely, some great discoveries!
Note: we’ll take a 60-minute break in the middle of the day. Don’t forget to bring your lunch!
Are you a past maker? Tell us what you thought of your experience.
