What’s wrong with this kettle? And is it really so complicated to repair yourself when it doesn’t work anymore?
This 3-hour workshop, hosted by Maxime, an electro-mechanic, is here to make you autonomous, by teaching you diagnostic and repair techniques with common household appliances (kettle, toaster, hair dryer…). You’ll also get to practice on defective appliances. You can even bring a personal appliance, to try to repair it at the end of the workshop.
During the workshop, we will cover the following topics
– Basic safety principles and personal protective equipment in electronics
– The basics of electrical schematics for small appliances: learning how to deconstruct and draw one by hand
– Chemistry involved in the repair of small appliances: hot glue, solder, and bicarbonate
– The tools needed for repairs: how to build a small toolbox
– The multimeter: understand how it works and how to use it
– The different parts and consumables needed to repair small appliances (switches, fuses, plugs, bulbs, etc.)
– electric plugs, bulbs, heating elements, crimps, heat shrink tubing, connection caps, etc.): how to identify them, obtain them at a good price and replace them.
– Diagnosis, practice of techniques, and application of these principles on different devices of daily use.
