Would you like to create a beautiful, colorful and decorative accessory using fabric scraps, while learning quilting techniques?
In this 2 x 3h course, you’ll make a cushion cover in a semi-directed way to introduce you to patchwork sewing. You’ll learn how to choose and match colors and patterns, then cut blocks, strip piecing, machine quilting and traditional bias finishing.
The two sessions will be presented as follows:
Session 1
- – Introduction to the cushion, the tools and the principle of block and color arrangement
- – Textile selection and creation of central motif with puzzles
- – Assembly range and block preparation (cutting and tracing)
- – Review of machine sewing basics
- – Strip piecing and pressing of half-squares
- – Intermediate block assembly, pressing and adjustments
- – Final top assembly
Session 2
- – Pattern selection and quilting preparation (lining+buff+upper)
- – Machine stitching and side trimming
- – Back panel preparation and assembly
- – Machine and contour tape preparation
- – Hand finishing
The inside of the cushion is not included. If you already know which cushion you want to cover, you can bring in the dimensions, as long as the final cover doesn’t exceed 20 inches by 20 inches. Note that a larger cushion can fit into a smaller cover to create a chunkier cushion.
Skills required: None, but not required, if you already know how to sew straight lines on a machine.
Price includes sewing machine, materials and fabrics, professional advice and lots of color !
