WORKSHOPS FOR SCHOOLS & CEGEPs
Are you in charge of a school group, and would like to give young people manual skills and the confidence that this engenders?
The team at Les Affûtés, whose goal is to give everyone manual autonomy, organizes dedicated sessions for children and young people.
Our fields
_____________
Woodwork
__
Cutting, assembling, sanding: giving life to a piece of furniture, an everyday object fills with an indescribable pride. We dedicate many activities to this noble material: making a planter, a desk, a candlestick, a skateboard, a cutting board, spinning tops…
Sewing
__
Designing your own garment or accessory and adapting it to your needs brings self-confidence and autonomy. Here we make T-shirts, sweatshirts, backpacks, bicycle bags, hats…
Repair
__
We are coming to the end of the ”fast bought-fast thrown away” era, and we all want to fight against programmed obsolescence. To be able to save an object which is dear to us feels great, and we repair here appliances, clothes… or holes in the walls!
+ bicycle / renovation / plants…
__
Our vision
_____________
Giving everyone more autonomy
__
What if we recreated, in a more modern way, the home economics classes of yesteryear? This is what we are trying to do at Les Affûtés, by giving autonomy and self-confidence to everyone, thanks to the use of their hands.
The environment at the heart of the project
__
Les Affûtés is a B Corp, that is to say a structure that puts its environmental and social impact before everything else. It is therefore essential for us to contribute to educate young people in upcycling, repair, ingenuity in the use of materials…
Flexible formats to suit young people
__
At school or at Les Affûtés, over one session or more, whether you are 10 or 30, over 1 hour or 4 hours, we adapt to the constraints of the schools (and the attention time of young people!) to provide them with manual skills.
They like to come
_____________
Edu2
__
« Our young people have made projects for our school at Les Affûtés, in connection with course themes: orientation panels, shelves, planters, giant board games… Some of our youngsters (8 to 14 years old) have become great amateurs and delight in spending time sanding their creations! »
Sainte-Anne School
__
“We were able to introduce our students to sewing, with Adam, and we are proud to see our young people blossom as they learn to make their own clothes.”
Plateau’s Young House
__
“Our youngsters loved making a musical instrument (the cajon) and backpacks, from recycled banners. What an experience for them, and what a first step in manual skills!”
Jean-Eudes School
__
“The students of our CEGEP came to learn how to repair their small appliances, as part of our course on sustainable development. They demonstrated such concentration and enthusiasm, it’s a pleasure to see!”
